Sync-ing The iPod??

What reason would one have for "sync-ing" an iPod? What actually happens?
Will it affect the current library / re-arrange songs / folders.etc.?

Syncing means that you synchronize things like playlists, song play counts, ratings, etc. Basically, the iPod makes sure the conditions are the same as in iTunes.
