Which Mac was the first tohave the"Bong" startup sound?

Read a funny story in this forum, wondering if anyone knows when this sound started on Macs?
 
It depends on your definition of "bong".

The successfull POST sound has been in ALL (except the Lisa) Macs since the dawn of time.

Anyway, yes -- the original Mac bonged. The chord was introduced, I'm almost certain, with the Mac II.
 
This could be me crossing wires, but I seem to recall that Brian Eno had a hand in the Mac "Bong". Anyone else remember this?

as i've said before, the PowerMac 6100/66 is my favorite startup sound, a guitar-twang version of the chord. They're all great in their unique ways. Until, of course, Apple decided to make them all the same...

Was that Win. 95 and Win. 98?

I love hearing the Mac startup sound 😀

Well, I still like his work pre Evil Empire, like David Bowie's LOW.
 
The Quadra 660AV (I still have mine 🙂 ) was the first Mac to use the same startup sound that is still being used today. Anyway, you'd think Apple would update the chime soon; they started using it in 1993!

first off this is a great thread, my congrats to the thread starter

and 2, I sure hope they don't update the chime sound, that one that is now used is in my mind quite iconic, espicially now that the whole line has been synced up...

I'm pretty sure it's in C major and is a first-inversion tonic chord, with the bass played by a pan-flute, and the top three done.. something else.



Then again, I just jumped on the piani and I was totally wrong. but I DID READ that somewhere. 😛

ugh. the third is IN THE TOP, kudos to me for reading the whole thread and links posted therein before posting from memory.
Well, third in top, third in bottom.. same thing, right, Mendelssohn? (hehehe.)
 
on a side note, G5 user for over a year now (and Mac) and ive never heard a Crash Noise HAHAHAHA. now my pc....totally diff. story. Funny I had to visit a site that had sound bits up so i could hear what a Mac crash noise feels like.

I love it *goes and pets my Mac*
