However, if you want to go that route.. you can't polish it before you bring it in. It'd have to have not been purposely altered in that way to be valid under warranty.

Wow, it actually looks better that way than the "murdered out" version. Makes it a bit more flashy.

I think that's going to be my plan, too.

I'm not talking about being scratch proof. I already know anodizing coating will wear off in the long run. I'm talking about the small batch of iP5 whose black is rubbing off like crazy with normal wiping. Those are truly defective and need to be replaced under warranty.

They shouldn't scratch as easily as they do. I bet they fixed this and most newer shipped phones won't scratch so easily. What that guy did in the video looks great though! Well done.

That video seems like a great way to scratch the hell out of your screen too!

I did this with my iPhone 3G and an old iPod. The iPod looks like it has brushed nickel on the back. Very nice.
But, I think I'd rather have the scratches on my iPhone 5 than do this. |

Their on year warranty doesn't cover cosmetic issues
---------- Quote:
---------- I wouldn't call typical use and pocket time "user neglect" but with how much this issue has cost apple they were bound to start making excuses and cutting people off eventually. ---------- Quote:

the "after" pic in the video looks fantastic.
i would like to see high quality photos of the polished version before attempting something like this if it were me though. |

If this was done on the white it will look nice, however looking at the new whir/silver edges on a 100% black phone it looks awful. Fashion disaster :s if there was a way of putting the black colour back to the new sand down silver edge that would look better

That's why you shouldn't take no for an answer if they refuse to swap out your defective anodized-coated iPhone. Mine still looks flawless to this day and others have deliberately tried to scratch the store models to no success.

that's not good !
ashame the didn't use similar glass etc as the 4 and 4S. I've looked at the black and the white instores and the black is definately worse for wear compared to the whites. If I were you I would buy Applecare and call them (don't go to the store) and tell them it's faulty, which technically it's not ...it's ugly though. Use the Advance replacement program, put the new one in a case. |

No problem with mine. I covered it with a full body skin and a thin case. It'll still look brand new when I sell it next year.

I agree. I have restored anodized parts on my vintage truck it takes caustic chemicals and or heavy heavy sanding to strip the anodized coating off the parts.

In case it's not obvious, sanding down the phone and modifying it will void the warranty and maybe AppleCare+ also.
