Grey tab on the edge of iPhone screen?

I've recently seen some people who have this grey square tab (with a circle in it) that appears on the edge of their iPhone screens, I think when they minimize a messaging application or something of that sort. Does anyone know what it is/if it is related to an app or something?

Thanks for your help!

It's assisted touch which Can be activated in settings under assessability. You can access your home button, locking the device, Siri and even more just by tapping it.

Comes in handy if you have a broken lock/home button.
