I'm looking to go with a mac mini this time as an upgrade (and addition to) my 2007 C2D mackbook.
I'm looking to get a 2.3ghz quad core i7 with the apple 256 SSD. Btw, I'm reading that there wouldn't be much of a speed boost with the 2.6ghz... although I think I'd spring for it if there is. I'm a Photoshop, Logic Pro, Ableton Live type user. So it seems I need to configure one from a base model. My dumb question is... are these 'configure your own' macs come that way from the factory, or do people from Apple or a reseller like macmall have a monkey tearing it apart an working on it? *shivers* ![]() thanks |

It comes custom ordered from a factory. The processor is soldered on, so it would be hard to put a new one on, if not impossible.

Thanks...
I wasn't really thinking about the cpu as I figured that'd be the case as you mention. But I was concerned about some guy sitting in macmall's employees kitchen tearing apart a new mac mini in order to swap out the standard hd with the SSD..... hence it being a dumb question as it now occurs to me why the heck they'd be tearing out factory parts only to replace it with another after the fact. doh! now I see this whole 'black screen, hdmi sucks' business. maybe I should wait for a fix if its coming |

Just get a DP monitor. You want higher than 1920x1200 anyways in 2012. So there is no HDMI problem!
