External HD format - NTFS/FAT32/HFS+J?
Just a quick clarification. You can only read NTFS on mac, but windows cannot read & write on HFS+J?
The reason is I just bought a 3TB WD My Book and it's formatted to HFS+J. My windows 8 laptop can't read it at all. Since I do my heavy downloads on windows, I think it'd be best if I format it to NTFS. I won't be able to write it with mac, but at least I can still access the files and copy it to my mac... Right?
I know there is FAT32, but then there is a file limit of 4GB. Many of my files are over that limit.
Or perhaps there is a better way for me to use it with both windows and mac?
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8. and windows 8.
