Okay the quad has been returned to jr.com for a replacement. Since they sold it to me and I buy a lot from them they honored the 30 return policy. Even sent a free ups ground label. In the meantime I have a 2.5 dual core base model on hand. I decided to run the prime95 cpu torture test on this machine . Running all 4 cores and passing my temps are much lower then the quad.

the machine stays maxed at 100% the temps are not bad 172f the fan is at 3335rpm. this machine may be far more durable then the quad due to heat. look at my setup photo as you can see the room temp is 82f yet this machine is fine after more then 1 hour of prime95 torture test.

I can tell you that for my use I will end up with duals over quads oh I will test the new quad when it comes but I am liking 175f with a 3343rpm fan for the dual a lot more then 216f with a 5500 rpm fan for the quad.

Now my quad or my mobo had an issue but the new one will run hot and loud under load I just hope it runs without errors. So far this dual has not had a black screen.

On one last thing I finally got the memtest86 + to work the quad passed it here is a blue screen of the quads ram test. it ran for 8 hrs plus no errors for the ram.

look how fast the cpu is.

L1 cache is 76494 MB/s
L2 cache is 34770 MB/s
L3 Cache is 26077 MB/s

The ddr3 ram is 16047 MB/s

The fastest ssd is only 550MB/s

I ran a 7 hour long prime95 test the base model 2.5 mini passed never got higher then 180f and the fans never went higher then 3343 rpm.

base dual core i.5 passed first test with 4gb stock ram

I am now running an 8gb ram kingston same ram that was in the quad. testing the cpu with prime 95 and standard fan program. so far 12 minutes in temps are 199 and fan is 2100rpm as apple tends to be gentle on the fans speed for sound over temp.

I will run this test with 8gb then 16gb ram. I Hope it passes all of them. the second test is being run with apple's fan program and the temps are higher 203f vs 180f but the fan speeds are lower 2146 via apple and 3343 via my setting for the lessor ram/prime95 test. So good cooling is possible I would feel better running machine under 200f with fan speed at 2500 or 2800. then over @201- 204 with fan at 2111rpm.

So far cooling the base model is easy. If you don't need a killer cpu the base model will be quiet and cool. Just slower on tasks like hand brake.

This is the 2012 Mac Mini base model right?

Thanks for testing this!

Ridiculous 205f/96C at Apple own build in fancontrol. IMO really stupid that Apple let this happen,it has to be atleast under 80c.

I could use manual fan control. But i never used it and i have no mac on the moment. My macbook pro's motherboard died just after 4.5 years.
I am gonna bake the motherboard in the oven at 200C for 10 minutes. Some people reported good results with it.

A 1800+Euro macbook pro who dies after 4.5 years... It has always had high heat. Tjuction was 105C. and average temp was 70c-85c little to full load was 90c-100c

There is so much on the internet on this. High temp = higher failure-rate.

When this happened with my Macbook Pro i thought: Fu©k you Apple.
Design for everything.

Anyone wants to buy a Mac for me? :D

wish I could buy a mac for you not rich enough!

I ran test for more then 4 hours all good this is the 8gb ram that was in the quad.

still apples fan control is silly 2216 rpm and 207f. I will run this test a little more at 3937 rpm which is okay for sound a little loud but temps will be better.

Okay in about 10 minutes at 3928 rpm temp dropped to 174-178F

3928 is a bit loud but not too bad.. this is the lower temp base model so if you are going to run long handbrake or any long hard work I would advise setting a better fan speed. there is no need to run your mini at 200f + if you set the fan higher it drops to 176 f . this is in a hot room as it is warm in New Jersey and I am not running AC. my room temp is 83F and a fan speed of 3900 keeps machine cool. I am going to run this with 16gb ram and give results tomorrow.

BTW

I should get the new quad by sat. I will test it and post on it Mon or Tue.

I would just forget you ever bought or tested the i7 model since you've already confirmed that it was broken, i.e., not working to spec. The more you write about the broken model, the higher the chances are that other people will find these posts and mistakenly take them as data about a model that isn't broken.

agreed in fact I am going to delete as much as i can on my posts at soon as the new one come in and I test it.

for now here is the beginning of my last 2 core test. using crucial 16gb ram and I set fan speed at 3141rpm as apples fan control lets the mini be quiet but hot about 202f. and my 3920 rpm fan setting is a bit loud.

I am about 10 minutes in temps are 180f with fan set at 3130rpm

using istat menus 3 a paid app that show a lot of info and has a fan control. I set the floor at 3135 and if the mini gets too hot the fans will go faster.. you can set 5 or 6 speeds. the lowest is 1800 the highest is 5500.

Haha it was a joke. :D
In fact, i don´t have enough money to buy a Macbook pro/air. But i could buy a Mac Mini. But then i have little left.

Maybe a hackintosch. Although i prefer Mac Mini since it works out of the box.

If you want to buy a Mac for me, you´re welcome! :D
I be very thankful. :D
