iPhone 5 - Does Reboot actually reboot or just restart?
I've been meaning to do this for a few days now.
I closed down all of the apps in the multi-tasking bar (you know what I mean...the apps all listed as being currently background running or recently running when you double-click the Home button) Anyway, after having an empty multi-tasking area, I "Rebooted" the iPhone 5 i.e. I held down the Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo appeared, then I timed how long it took to boot up to the password screen...21 seconds Oddly however, all the apps I shut down were there again! I closed/removed them all again. Then I held the Power button until the "Slide to turn off" dialogue appeared and I simply turned it off. Then I pressed the Power button until the Apple logo appeared and, again timed it to get to the password screen...21 seconds! Just for comparison, I tested my iPad 2 running 6.0.1 (same as my iPhone 5) and a "Reboot" took 51 seconds. All the apps I'd closed down were still listed again! A "Restart" from being simply switched off took 21 seconds...a huge difference. I know the processor is faster on the iP5 but really? I would expect a slightly longer time for a complete reboot wouldn't you? Is rebooting the iPhone 5 running iOS6 actually rebooting the phone or just restarting it? What behavior are you seeing that you think is being helped by rebooting your iPhone?

As you will no doubt tell from the title of the post, I'm trying to ascertain if the iPhone 5 reboots correctly.
Please let me know your results if you consider it worthwhile trying |

The tray that you get when you double-click the home button simply lists recently used apps. The fact that an app is in this list does not mean it is running.
I'm not sure what distinction you are trying to make between rebooting and restarting. |

Do you all have iPhone 5s and are just plain unwilling to assist? I find it odd that, for the first time with any of my various iPhones over the years, the reboot procedure no longer clears the list of recently running or background running apps, nor does it take longer than a restart and I want to know whether other users' phones are exhibiting the same issue. Was that not particularly clear in my first post? ---------- Ah, that explains it...any grown-ups on here please? |

Are you having problems with your phone? There is no need to do this not sure why they show back up but it's nothing to worry about

TC, you already have this question answered on the Official Apple Community Forums at their website. I just happen to stumble upon the topic you created there.

Thanks kids. I'm getting more help on the Apple forum so I'll check back here in a day or two to see if anyone has actually carried out the test.
Honestly, it took someone 2 minutes to test it and confirm the same results on that forum. ---------- I asked it when nobody would help here |
