Show Mail Outbox permanently

the following worked for me:
go to ~/Library/Preferences
open com.apple.mail.pllist
find this section:
<string>~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Outbox.mbox</string>
<key>OutboxViewerAttributes</key>
<dict>
<key>DisplayInThreadedMode</key>
<string>no</string>
<key>SortOrder</key>
<string>subject</string>
<key>SortedDescending</key>
<string>YES</string>
</dict>
and change DisplayInThreadedMode from NO to YES

Been looking for a work around on this myself and think I have found one.
I created a blank plain text document called "untitled text" and saved it to my desktop. I dropped it in to the outbox.mbox folder and renamed it "untitled text.emlx".
This seems to force the outbox to show when you open mail, but mail doesn't actually read the document as an email so the mailbox appears empty in mail.
This means you don't get the annoying "cannot send this email" message pop up every time you open mail or when you click "get mail", that you do using the above options.

Hi,
I did the change, but on restart, it still failed. I see that other elements have this set to 'no', but always appear, so it must be something else.
Any ideas?

What causes the Outbox to not show at all when you're sending an email, and it isn't sending and not gone to sent items... I do get the password box coming up quite a lot of late as well

I've been having problems with Mobile Me email address sending messages ever since upgrading to Lion. Not sure if it's related to this permanent outbox mod that I followed. There's another thread following this issue:

How do I find the outbox.mbox folder? Searched my hard drive and can't find it...
