I need to sell her, how much should I ask?
I can no longer afford to keep my 2009 Quad 2.93 with 16GB of RAM, AirPort Extreme card, 1TB HD, and dual SuperDives around any more.
If I were to attempt to sell it on eBay, about where should I start with price? It's in perfect cosmetic condition, and it's been kept clean and off the floor in a consistently vacuumed room since I got it " like new" last year from OWC. I'm thinking somewhere between $1500-1750. Thanks for any advice, PM me if you wish. |

Be sure to get a good shipping estimate prior to eBay listing. It weighs a ton and that will be a lot of $$$ to ship. Also ship it insured and with some form of confirmation.

Do you have the original packaging? Is there any AppleCare left?

If shipping is going to cost a lot, maybe try your luck on Craigslist?

Shipping would be between 40-50 bucks. I do have the original packaging, but no AppleCare.

this time last year a basic single processor 08 was going for around 1k on ebay.
Check ended listings and see what the auctions are ending at to get a good idea on what they are selling for now. It's also worth throwing an ad up on your local craigslist. It might take some time and you will receive some spam emails of people wanting you to ship it to there son in Africa but you may end up selling it for more locally than you could get on ebay. Plus no shipping or paypal/ebay fee's to deal with

Your computer is 3-4 years old, it's not worth $1500.
Yeah, it's a Mac pro.. But it's still an old computer. There's not even any mention of a sweet graphics card, or RAID card or something that may sweeten the deal.. |

Looking at the completed listing $1,300 to $1,500 sounds right.
Personally I'd go with Craigslist. You don't have to worry about shipping or chargeback fraud plus enormous Paypal and eBay fees. Obviously don't ship anything and only take cash with Craigslist. With the Mac Pro they'll have to come to your house. I'd just have everything set up in my garage for them to test it and pay you. That's the way I do it. If you don't have a garage then your front room. I'd be suspect of someone that wants to meet you somewhere. Who is going to spend $1,500 on a computer with no way to test it. This isn't some battery powered device we're talking about here.

I think....
a good price would be $1500.00 tops, shipping costs included. Apple Care would have helped to get a better price, but then, good cosmetic condition, no functional issues and good care also can help to a better price.

As a possible data point, I just sold my 2008 Mac Pro w/ 32 gb of ram and 4x1 tb drives for $1500 cash on Craigslist (Boston) about 2 weeks ago. And yeah, did it in the garage. Sold it within 2 days of posting on CL.
