Which iMac are you using? Is your TV connected to the same network? Is there any reason that it is not in your TV rental menu under movies?
The airplay icon is usually in the upper right next to the clock.

(the imac will decode the movie to play it on the screen, it will then be re-encoded in a much lower quality to be airplayed to the aTV. The aTV can handle the much higher quality file directly)
If your aTV isn't showing up in the airplay menu, try rebooting your router, they can get a bit odd with airplay at times.
