Online Backup Advice
Hello hello, I think I'm in the right place to ask this questions...
I'm looking for an online backup service which meets the following criteria; -Minimum 256 bit encryption -Encryption on backup transfer and server storage -Mac/PC compatible -Server and company based outside UK/USA It would be a bonus if it had a iPhone app but it's not critical. Cheers in advance! |

CrashPlan meets all of those requirements except they're based in the US. Not sure why that matters though :\

Tricky question.
Yandex is based in Russia, but has no listing about encryption strength. It seems to use HTTPS/WebDAV, which likely means 128-bit encryption. http://disk.yandex.com/how-to/ OSG Records Management is based in Poland, and lists 128/256-bit encryption, but makes no mention of a mobile app. http://www.osgrm.com/services/it-arc...-backup-online

How much space are you looking to back up? It depends quite a lot on that.
If you are looking for non-US companies it's a bit difficult as most of these are in silicon valley, but here's a guide about ones in asia that I found: http://www.bestbackups.com/blog/2387...anies-in-asia/ |

Have you considered a local terabyte drive for your backup needs? Just curious.

Tried Vembu storegrid?
Have you checked out storegrid? Meets all the criteria you have mentioned.

CrashPlan is on sale today for Black Friday. The price goes up by the hour. I got it for free this morning. Friends paid $5 for a year of family plan which is more than a 85% discount.

Ooo, thanks. Bit put off by the bad reviews for speed, especially as I'm Australian based. I'd expect there'd be an influx with this deal too.
Considering SOS Backup. I'm intrigued by their ultra safe option which states; 'With ultra-safe, not even our engineers can decrypt it because it requires the client's password to be decrypted and this is not stored in plain text on the server side.' Does that mean if a government agency issued a subpoena all that would happen is the encrypted backup/account info would be handed over but not the contents of the backup itself? |
