I am eligible for an upgrade with Verizon. The 64GB iPhone5 is $400. I am fine with my current iPhone4 and am content with buying another one used, should my current one need replaced.

A completed listing search on ebay shows the 64GB sealed in box going for a little over $1000! What am I missing? Minus some fees and such, a profit of over $500? Am I seeing this correctly?

Any tips for selling? Only allow USA or open it up to international buyers.

I am a somewhat established ebay seller with no feedback issues or anything like that.

Any help is appreciated.

eBay does not have upgrade prices, they are retail. Somone could have choose to buy the phone at upgrade price and sell at eBay at retail making some profit.

....what you are missing is that the price isnt normally $400.. thats the subsidized price.. lol?

so yes.. you are going to make a profit. $1000-$400+state tax..+ebay fees= your profit.

unless you are trying to sell a sprint one :p they go for much less

So.. Just want to make sure..
You are going to get iPhone 5 with another 2 year contract and sell it?
Interesting. I would suggest you to not do it for approx $400 profit.

Let say you sell it for $1,000
$1,000 - $29.30($.30 transaction fee, +2.9%) = $970.70
eBay listing fee + Final value fee = approximately $51.50
$970.70 - $51.50 = $919.2

iPhone 5 64GB = $399+tax+upgrade fee ($30)

$919.2 - approx $460 = $459.2
$459.2 / 20 month(till next upgrade eligible date) = $22.96

Can you earn $22.96 per month?
Yes -> Don't sell it
No -> Sell it

If you upgrade wouldn't it shut off your iPhone 4 and you would have to switch back? You can't sell it unopened because Verizon would activate it for you.

I am fine with having or buying another (should I need to) used iphone4. How much better can the 5 really be? Is it worth paying $200-400? Not for me. I can likely get another used iphone4 for $150 or less should I need to in the next 2 years.

I just don't understand who are buying iphone5 for $1000. Don't they have to subscribe to Verizon anyway and would then be eligible for the discount?

How does selling the sealed box work with the buyer activating it? Can they activate it to their account and can I keep using my existing phone?

I sold my iPhone 5 that USED and had a nick for $1,100.

The fees were $98 for ebay, and I didn't have to paypal fees because I got the money paid a different way, however, if I did have fees, it would have been approx. $40 plus.

If you sell now, I DOUBT you will get $1,000 because there is no more iPhone 5 fever and supply has already caught up with demand. More like $900 or less.

eBay = NOT WORTH IT.

Craigslist = Meet in public place in the DAY TIME.

The 64GB iPhone 5 is $849 plus tax full price (that's about $950 with tax), so $1000 isn't too bad with shipping, fees, and all.

They buy them so they can use them on other carriers. I don't get why you wouldn't just put out the $200-400 to have a new phone that will hold over the next two years. If you are indeed content with the iPhone 4 just realize the money you make won't even last you long enough to be worth it. Also, in two years time, the 4 will be 4 years old..

Think about it like this- your potential profit doesn't even cover a half of a year of your bills. Might as well enjoy the perks of subsidation.

I recently upgraded from iPhone 4 to 5 and I LOVE it.
Sold my old iPhone 4 for $210, and paid $250 for iPhone 5.
well.. I don't care if you are gonna keep or iPhone 4 or buy iPhone 5.

I'm not sure about activating thing
You better go out to Verizon store and ask them lol :D

At the iPhone hacks section.
What you're missing is you're signing a 2 year contract with a $350 ETF.
That's why you're getting it cheaper than full price.
When others buy it for more money on ebay or CL they're not tied into any contracts and can use it with any GSM carrier. Verizon iphone 5 models are fully unlocked to be used with any GSM sim so they dont have to just use it on Verizon, they can use it anywhere.
