Hello all,

In the future I want to record video (of the screen) from my Android tablet with a Mini-HDMI port on it. Android-based screen recoding software does not work on my tablet, due to it's CPU (Tegra 3). I wanted to know if there is a relatively cheap USB/Firewire device that I can connect an HDMI port to, but make Mac OS X detect it as a camera device so I can directly record from iMovie/Skype/iChat/etc.

I know PCi Express cards and expensive 1080p Firewire recorders exist, but my needs are not that high. The resolution of the tablet is 1280x800, so recording in 720p would probably be best. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

IMHO, Blackmagic's Design Intensity Extreme HDMI and Analog Capture & Playback Device (Thunderbolt version at http://www.amazon.com/Blackmagic-Design-Intensity-Extreme-Solution/dp/B007CYJ4WM ) is pretty nice and mounts as a true camera.

Should you not have Thunderbolt, the USB3-based version ( http://www.amazon.com/Blackmagic-De...ers-Professional/dp/B003WSQTWU/ref=pd_cp_pc_2 ) doesn't work with computers with most chipsets.

Unfortunately, Elgato's Game Capture HD ( http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/capture-convert/GameCaptureHD.en.html ; also see http://toucharcade.com/2012/06/19/wwdc-elgatos-game-capture-hd-is-blowing-my-mind-right-now/) , which is even cheaper, can't be mounted as a camera.

Thanks for the links! I do not have a Thunderbolt Mac, but the Game Capture HD does look very nice despite not mounting as a camera.

EDIT: Realized I only have USB 2.0. Whoops, glad I haven't bought it yet.
