iTunes Videos, Concert Tickets, iPodCasts

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif

Apple appears busy at leveraging the popularity of the iTunes Music Store to expand its reach further.

As previously reported, Apple has been bundling music videos with certain album sales and may plan to expand to sell individual music videos separately. Most recently offered is the Bonus Video Version of a 50 Cent album.

Also new is a partnership with Ticketmaster for pre-ticket sales. Depeche Mode's album Playing The Angel (also bundled with a video) is offered as a pre-order from the iTunes Music Store. Pre-ordering the album enters you into Ticketmaster's pre-sale for the 2005-2006 North American Depeche Mode tour. This entry does not guarantee a ticket sale, but does offer some interesting new potential income streams for Apple.

Meanwhile, the first Video Podcasts appear to be making their appearance in the iTunes Music Store. It's long been known that Apple's interface/intrastructure would allow for distribution of video podcasts, but the first actual Video podcasts are now becoming available. Choices are rather limited at the moment, but Video appears to be a direction that Apple is actively pursuing. (City Magazine TV Video Podcast). Apple also recently filed for trademark protection on the term "iPodcast".

Good thinking Apple- make ITMS the one stop shop for all things media related. Perhaps soon we will buy MOVIE tickets through ITMS-

Great news about the video podcasts! And great news for Apple in general - I think this type of promotional activity can be nothing but good for them. I think all of this is leading towards some form of iTunes video store (would it still be "iTunes" then though? ) which hopefully we'll be hearing more about come MWSF...

I was thinking about that too. I think they have to change the name if they expand video beyond music videos.

Or if video podcasts really take off. Podcasts were originally compared to radio broadcasts. If they start going video a lot, that's no longer accurate...

I've been subscribed to a Video Podcast for some time now.

In fact, it may have been my first podcast subscription.

I was initially thinking the iTVS (Video Store), but that would still have "iTunes" in the title. Hmm, I wonder what Apple will do...

Are those turorial vid podcasts? Cuz I think turorial video podcasts would be something that is really appealing. Learning by watching is always better for me.

I think I speak for all by saying that if Apple had porncasts, they would be propelled to the next level. It took pornography to popularize home VHS players and I think it could take just as large of a business item to get vidcasts going strong.

Can you imagine the type of international success that Apple could have from a partnership with Playboy?

If iTunes moves too far past just "tunes" - the name should probably change, but it may not be worth it because of the name recognition that iTunes has. If they change it, I think they should use the name Apple as part of the new store name.

Perhaps an interim name:
Apple Media Store - powered by iTunes

then, as people become used to the new name, drop the powered by iTunes tag.

Businesses do this all of the time when acquiring other businesses, because name recognition and branding are very important, especially when it is very successful. It probably is a bad idea for Apple to change the name of the store this early in the game.

Apparantly, iTunes is evolving and the iTMS is also evolving. Both iTunes and iPhoto can store video in their respective libraries. It will be interesting to see where all of this goes.

It would be cool if we could by concert tickets, event tix, movie tickets, and even apple accessories and ipods directly within iTunes. They really need to organize music videos much better in the iTMS though.

Why? What advantage does an iPod w/video provide? It has already proved to be pretty much a failure with other MP3 players. WHY would it be a success on an iPod? You're not going to watch a movie on a little screen. I just don't get all of the excitement about an iPod with video. I'm not against it on an iPod per se, but if you want portable video, why not just go and buy a 12" iBook?

What would be nice is an Airport Express with Video support. This way I could watch my home movies on my TV easily. And a video iPod with A/V output jacks would be a decent idea for showing home movies while you're away or visiting relatives.

Sarcasm aside for the folks that don't know, yes Apple does still make and sell computers, in fact they are shipping more computers per quarter (in recent quarters) then at anytime in their past.

Wouldn't a video podcast be a totally different audience that an audio one. Something like tv versus radio, but I don't see one evolving into the other. Video podcasting would be awesome for animation shorts and tv shows though! I certainly don't want to watch some guy sitting there talking. At that point I might as well just listen to an audio podcast.

im sure whatever they do, it will be nothing short of genius. can't wait.

But they will have to rethink iTunes. I think they'll have to seporate vidos from iTunes into a whole new iLife program. Maybe it'll be introduced in "Leopard".

Also Apple files for iPodcast trademark.

Probably an application to easy production of Audio and Video podcasts.
