Altivec for Folding Soon!

Take a look at this thread :

http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=2398

It seems that Altivec is not too far off! This should help the team. Take a look at the benchmarks here:

(These links I found on MacNN - I dont take credit for them)

Yum. a 128bit vector engine finding the cure for cancer. Well, I guess anything that pumps out more results faster can't hurt.

[WHINE]But I was enjoying having my slow PCs push me up within the team rankings...[/WHINE]

Taking advantage of altivec is one of two good things that can happen for this team. The other is MacOS9 compatibility...tho' I don't see that happening soon. All the computers at my school run OS9...so they all run SETI, even in the Biochem Labs. Just think...folding proteins on biology computers...

Looks like I'll have to start folding on my brand spanking new powerbook (when I get it)...I wasn't planning on to.

Bad News?

OK, it's looking like 10.2+AltiVec is months rather then weeks off. The holidays are hitting, and finals are close, which means everything is getting busy for everyone. The PC version is even a while away.

Still, better sometime than no time. Besides, the more the scientific community sees the progress, the more they'll buy machines.
