How do I connect my ps3 controller to my pc?

I've tried the motionjoy driver thing, but it dosn't work. Also, I am using an off brand wired nyko controller so the USB cord is build into the controller, if that makes any kind of difference.
MacBook Pro (15" Mid 2012); PC Tower (3.4GHz Phenom II x4; Radeon HD 6850); 5th Gen iPod touch Blue 64GB; 3rd Gen tv; 1st Gen iPad Wi-Fi 32GB; Galaxy Nexus LTE
