Apple TV Connection

Is it possible to hook up appleTV to a stereo receiver by optical cable AND portable speakers by a headphone jack and have them play at the same time? The music source is typically an iPod or an iPhone.

ATV3 has a single optical audio out, THAT to receiver. Receiver typically has a few analogue line outs... would be called line out, tape out, monitor out etc CONNECT that to your potables assuming they are self-powered.
