Apple is now accepting orders for the new iMac on their online store. The new iMacs offer dramatically reduced thickness and add a brand new Fusion Drive that combines flash storage and a traditional disk-based hard drive to maximize both speed and capacity.

The 21.5" model starts at $1299 and $1499 while the 27" model starts at $1799 and $1999. The 21.5" model is shipping in "1-3 business days" while the 27" model ships in 2-3 weeks. Limited stock of 21.5" iMacs should also be available in Apple retail stores starting today. The previously reported iMac build-to-order options were accurate with a variety of RAM, Processor, Hard Drive and Graphics Card upgrades available for specific models.

We previously posted an unboxing video of the new iMac.

Ordered mine about 20 minutes ago. 7-10 business days for a fully decked out 21.5" model. Arriving a week before Christmas.

Wewt!! Ordering mine now.

27" with 3.4 GHz Core i7 and 728 GB SSD. Will use my external thunderbolt for more storage and buy aftermarket RAM.

Anyone know why you can't get a fusion drive with the 728 GB SSD and 3 TB HDD. Would work much better for me (yes, I would use most of that storage).

I still can't help but feel the new iMac is a downgrade from the previous generation.

I just changed my order and went the whole hog - i7, 32gb ram, 3tb fusion and nVidia 680MX (and AppleCare) ... not much more than my original order - it's not like I'm going to be buying one of these every week ... in for a penny, in for a pound!

can you upgrade the ram yourself ? otherwise you paid 180$ too much for your ram upgrade rofl. i think the fusion drive should come stock honestly or at least give us 7200rpm stock drives. i really want one of these. with edu pricing you can have a nice i7 model 8gigs ram 1tb drive for 1580$. damn wish i didint just buy a macbook pro

you better wait for next gen with your mb pro - later even apple will give fussion as default - entry imac is obsolete piece of tech, no ssd in 2013 is a joke.. so, wait

If the US is anything like the UK, you can get the RAM for about 1/5 the price from crucial.com instead

The ram on the 21.5 won't be upgradable. Must be soldered. Not sure if you can order without the fusion and add your own ssd later.
Will be interesting if you can add your own ram and ssd to the 27" model than it will be nearly the same price to take the base 27 vs 21.5 with 16gb+fusion

Ordered. At last!!! The relief was palpable. It's going to be a great Christmas! :)

Went for the medium amount of RAM from Apple, which I know people will smirk at, but it was only £160 and I can always upgrade a year down the line for peanuts and have a nice upgrade to look forward to :)

Got mine high end 27 inch iMac max out except for ram you'd be a fool to buy ram from apple. Couldn't be happier. Tears of joy been waiting since April without a computer just an iPad as my main machine. Yayyyy
