Apple made up a Fusion drive for lammers. |

personally after messing with the configurations the 27 inch is a better buy. I may wait until march though to purchase. Its expensive so I need time to think about it.

screens/iMacs). ML is rock solid, never a single KP. It's beyond what a Mac Pro twice the cost will perform at and certainly the new max config iMacs. It is not for the faint of heart and it's not going to be a vanilla install (requires some tweaking and compromises..ie. no machine sleep, no speedstep) but it's also been a very fun project. I'm overclocked to 3.8ghz (4.2ghz in win 7 where I get 23K geekbench!).. those are very conservative overclocks and beyond easy to configure with these boards. Even at stock speed she pulls over 16K. The thread that got me going: X79

Last gen's decked out 27" iMac cost about £1700-£1800. This year (BTO CPU, GPU, Fusion, Superdrive add-on and Applecare) its been jacked up to almost £2000. *sigh*

anyone know how long until company discounts take effect - meaning any corporate discounts aren't showing up on iMac but on everything else....

Ordered a 27" iMac with 8GB RAM (going to max out with Crucial.com) and 3TB fusion drive. I don't care if one drive dies because I use Backblaze to backup, as well as external storage to backup.
This is my first iMac purchase. Now what should I do with my Mac mini....

hmmm, the 27" with 1GB 675MX graphics and a 1 TB Fusion drive, Apple USB superdrive and 8GB Ram and a i7 3.4ghz CPU is £2124,
a Retina 15" MacBook Pro with 1GB GT650M graphics and 512GB SSD and Apple USB superdrive and a i7 2.7ghz and 16GB Ram is £2764. Hmm the iMac still gives good value for an Apple computer, will be faster, but that MacBook has the Retina screen but it's still 15". And please can people stop winging pointlessly about the cost of SSD's? If you can find a 768GB SSD in the first place let alone one cheaper then Apple's then please post a link on here!

I went with a fairly modest case, the Corsair Carbide 300R. Was ~$65 or so. Since I wanted it to sit in the tower slot in my desk the size was important and didn't need anything too flashy.
Went with a cooler master 212 evo cooler since I knew I would not be doing any extreme overclocking. Might spring for an H100 at some point if a good deal comes along, they fit nicely into the corsair cases.

Ordered my 27" this morning. 2.9GHz version with Fusion Drive, £1,495 (Crucial do 32GB for £120, so will pick that up too). Let's hear it for student discount. . Only downside: 21 Dec - 2 Jan delivery window.

why no 3 TB Fusion Drive option on the 21.5" model?? i imagine that's kinda annoying for some folks that you'd need to get the 27" for that...

Called to upgrade my shipping and they switched it to expedited for free. They were probably going to send it that quickly anyhow but it's great knowing it'll definitely get here earlier. Great customer service. My phone call was done in 3 minutes with no wait time.

The 2012 iMac actually looks much easier to open up than previous models, thanks to the welded display. No more having to first remove the glass, then the LCD panel with ~18 screws... |

Thugly
This quest for the illusion of thinness has gone too far. It's got a tupperware bowl shape. It's ugly. I don't want that thing sitting on my desk.
