I am running a Quicksilver as a home server. But the fans are too noisy. Solution?

:D

Replace them! I swapped out both the 120mm and the 60mm fan. Wasn't too hard with the Apple repair manual.

Pretty cool. The 120mm fan shines through the side of the case at night... pretty neat.
Just thought I should show it off... because...
Anywhoo, if you have any questions ask me.

nice, I also changed the 120mm fan in my QS2002. I also attached a pci speed controller so when it's hotter in the summer I boost up the rpm and when I want silence I lower the rpm.

but the noisiest element must be the PSU fan, I still haven' t dare to touch that one.

Yeah, the outputs on the PSU fan don't match up, which causes a bit of extra noise. But that hasn't caused too big of a problem. I don't want to start hacking up the case.

Oh, and the lights were an... unintended effect. They are quite bright at night but it was the quietest 120mm fan they had. Oh well.

I removed the plastic back panel because the psu fan grills weren't alligned with the case panel creating noise.

and I also removed the left case panel (next to the 120mm fan) so now the hot air blows directly out of the case instead of blowing inside the plastic panel (problably to cool additional HDs) and making a 90 degree turn before exiting the case.

and I also removed the 2 screws holding the CPU fan.

this all will reduce the noise inside the comp.

here's a pic from the website where I found the trick:
