For air play mirroring, is there any difference between ATV 2 vs ATV 3?
Aside from 1080p vs 720p, of course. Does the better processor in the 3rd gen ATV make any difference on the quality of Air Play mirroring?

I have owned both 2nd & 3rd gen ATVs and haven't noticed any difference between the two in Airplay mirroriing. Response time seems the same to me....

No. The mirroring is based upon processing from the device itself, be it an iPad, iPhone, or whatever that is actually streaming the data. The only thing the ATV has to do is receive the signal and show the picture.

This might be a silly question, but does this mean I can airplay a 1080p movie to an ATV2?

Yes, but it will be downscaled to 720p before it reaches the ATV.
