I am new to iMac, only a few days 🙂 So please be patient with me and all my questions in this thread.

As far as I understand, Time Machine accesses my external hard drive every hour and makes a backup, and when drive space is used up, TM begins to overwrite the oldest backup..is that correct?

Can I tell TM to only backup once per day and not every hour?

The hourly backup is a delta from the last backup. Minimal changes == minimal backup to TM. More changes == more data for TM to back up.

That Time Machine Editor looks good🙂

All I want is for TM to backup once per day, not hourly, so hopefully that program will help. Thank you.

Do you mind saying why? It only performs incremental backups and is not very intrusive.

I use TIme Machine Editor for Daily backups as well. I backup to a USB hard drive on my Airport Extreme, and I don't want the drive constantly mounting/unmounting in order to backing up throughout the day.

I set mine to go at 10:30pm each day, and have done that since TIme Machine came out. It works great.

I would agree though, if your drive is directly connected to your Mac, then the hourly schedule is fine...

I have mine set to back up on the default schedule to a time capsule and I never even notice when it makes the back up. It just works. I see no need or reason to change the default schedule.
