Ghost item in trash that won't delete - Please help

I have a strange item in my trash that won't delete.
I have tried both pressing option and empty, and shift+option and empty; however neither will remove the item.
It is invisible in "icon" view, but visible in all the other views. The file name is incomprehensible to me, I have attached a picture of it.
When I select "More info" for the file the finder restarts. Unless I select "More info" from "Icon" view, in which case it disappears from the trash, reading 0 items. Next time I open it the alias is back.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this!

Try making a new folder, moving it to the trash, then select "secure empty trash" in the finder menu
