Turn the tv down !!
Say goodbye to one of the greatest irritants of modern life: television commercials that are MUCH LOUDER THAN THE SHOW YOU ARE WATCHING!
Beginning Thursday ( Today ) , the Federal Communications Commission is barring broadcasters and pay TV providers from airing excessively loud commercials, saying ads must maintain the "same average volume" as the programs they accompany. ----------------- http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/13/showbi...ume/index.html |

I thought that this was already in place. In any case, I don't think it will help much- they only have to maintain the same average volume as the TV show, so think about alternating silence and balring noise that would average to a reasonable sound.

Good luck with this. There is zero quality control in commercial delivery for networks. A computer pulls them off of a server, sets all the levels automatically, and some drone simply checks the code to make sure it's the right spot and that it's starts and ends in the right place. And remember, the average of a commercial is always going to seem louder cause its 15-30 seconds of pure noice for most spots. Shows take a break from loud noices for a much longer time.

Its the worst on TNT. The commercials are just blaring compared to the show you're watching. |

I work at a tv station and we are aware of the new legislation and cable operators are taking the seriously. We need a new certification too.
But is not about the TV commercials only. The legislation actually measures the ratio on which the volume increases and the length of that increment. I mean, if the volume increases all of the sudden and keeps that way, there is an alarm in the CABLE OPERATOR that marks the tv show and the moment when it happened. the FCC will send a warning to the cable operator and the cable operator to the TV station. If its happen again there is a penalty. That is how actually works. Every cable operator are installing new software and hardware to measure those picks. Why the cable operators? because the FCC protect the audience who is the final costumer. In our end, we need to be careful with the programming we have because is not only tv commercials, it applies to movies and tv shows as well. that "sonic shock" is what the legislation is working. |

Yeah I still do because I enjoy channel surfing and screaming at all the PPI claim, payday loan, bingo, car insurance, cash my gold, price comparison website and ambulance chaser adverts that seem to infect UK TV like some sort of deadly virus
