The CPU inside 27" iMac?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to find out if it is worth it to upgrade the i5 to i7 on the new iMac. So what CPU is inside?

3470 vs 3770 or am I wrong?

I found this site where one can compare the performance:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_look...3.20GHz&id=822

I will be using the machine for work. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Final Cut Pro.

Anyone care to guess why the 21.5 i7 has a higher geekbench score than the 27 i7? I'm guessing RAM and/or Fusion Drive in the 21.5?

That 27" score is old and pre-release. We will have to wait and see.

the cpu in 21.5'' is slightly better than the 27'' 9504 vs 9464(3770s vs 3770)

This is correct.

It it worth to upgrade? Probably not. What do you have more - time or money? The i7 will save you a few additional minutes per work day (at best).

so, the cost to upgrade the 2.9GHz i5 - 3.1GHz i7 on the 21" is the same as upgrading the 3.2GHz i5 - 3.4GHz i7.

which means you're upgrading a more expensive processor in the 27" to a cheaper one than in the 21". for the same money.

didn't spot that one when ordering the better faster processor on the BTO 27...

Main difference is i7 comes with hyperthreading, it means you have 4 core but 8 processes (sort of like 4 physical + 4 virtual cores). Final Cut probably make use of that, Photoshop use hypethreading for some operations, so if you use these operations can speed up things a bit.

I have the rMBP 2.3 Ghz i7 now. Will the iMac i5 3.2 Ghz be faster? Or is the i7 in my laptop faster?

Depends on what you use your machine for. If you're doing video encoding at all, the i7 will actually be faster. In most cases, the rMBP will be faster in all aspects due to the i7 and SSD.

Really? Checking Intel's site it looks like they are identical, outside of the 3.1 vs 3.4 initial speeds. Turbo Boost to 3.9, both have 8MB cache, etc. What makes the 3770s speedier?

So I should actually stay away from the iMac 27" unless I go for a i7?

Because I have the rMBP 2.3 i7 with 16 gb ram now and it is quite fast @performance. If I go for the iMac then it should be because it is faster/has greater performance.
