Hey guys,

Sorry to bring this up again, but wanted to know if Apple would change my phone.

Had the iPhone 5 for a couple of months and have been super careful with it, however, I've noticed that bits of the black edge are flaking off.

Is this covered by warantee?

Enjoy!

Hey guys: My car has some rock chips on it after I drove it for a few months. I drive super careful though. Will they repaint my car? Give me a new one?

Hey guys: I dropped my laptop and it split in two. I dropped it VERY gently. Will HP give me a new one?

Hey guys: I put some money in a slot machine. I lost. Will the casino give me my money back? I believe the slot machine was defective (I have no proof, but I read it on several forums).

Whatcha think? Should I get a lawyer? This is BS right???

Typical MacRumor Apple fanboi response.

If you bought a new car and the paint started flaking off around the door handle after you have opened the door a few times I am sure you wouldn't be happy. Apple clearly have a problem with the finish. I am also really careful with my iPhone 5 - it has a Zagg cover back and front and it has never been near anything metallic yet the paint around the bezel is flaking off. I don't see why Apple's inability to build a durable phone should be my problem and I will very politely be asking for a replacement phone. Like antenna-gate, I shouldn't really need a bumper to cover up another apple error.

Error? Is the phone broken? Does it not function? How is it not durable? Its not an error. When you take your phone in and out of your pocket, that causes friction on the painted edges. After doing this several times a day, every day, it will begin to wear. ANY painted surface will do this after a while of have something rub against it.

Typical "I broke my XYZ and have to blame it on someone else" OCD fanboi response.

If paint was flaking off the door handle of a new car after a few uses and a dealership/manufacturer was to believe it WASN'T due to the driver, it would have to be a documented issue (to cover it under a recall, etc.). So far, Apple has indicated that silver wear on the edges is to be expected with use, especially if you don't take care of it (it's the small trade off from using aluminum to make the phone lighter, thinner, AND less likey to shatter/crack).

There has been NO acknowledgement of a "defect". Mainly because there IS no defect, just careless owners that are trying to blame their inability to take care of the product on someone/thing else.

I have no way of knowing if you took care of the phone or dragged it behind your car for 30 miles down a dirt road... What I do know is that you are in the serious minority with your "problem" (even on a "fanboi" forum) and that makes your story of it flaking entirely on it's own suspect.

I take care of mine, use it without a case, and have NO "flaking". I know a guy who dropped his on cement. It has damage now.

He could blame Apple, but he's a big boy and knows it's his fault for not taking care of it. He knows it didn't happen on it's own, but he could lie and say it did if he wanted to I guess...

fanboys. lol. defending a company for making a product with a defect.

If you car's paint starts chipping/peeling away after a couple of months, it is defective.

Car companies can choose what kind of paint/finish to use on their cars. You can bet that they'd be liable if they chose an inferior and weaker paint/finish that washed off in the rain or from normal driving.

A phone is expected to be put into/taken out of a pocket and handled normally. If it cannot withstand this without sustaining reasonable cosmetic damage, then it is defective.

Any other answer is simply a fanboy response. Defending the company for scuffgate or antennagate...wow. We get it, you love this company irrationally. I love it too, and they have been good to me, generally. But that doesn't mean they are perfect. I have had to go through a lot getting their products fixed/replaced. I don't mind so long as they take care of me/customers.

Just one dilema. As iPhone 5 White is anodized without the color i.e. it is silver, the signs of use won't be there, right? I mean, scratches will only be seen if you hit it and acctually scratch the aluminium itself.
