New extend hard drive to backup air

I have a 128G 2012 Macbook air. I am planing to buy a extend hard drive to backup the air.

Which size of hard drive should I get? Will 1TB enough?

It could be a random answer that it's depond on what occupation you get and what features you have been standard for. For light way u could end up with 1t to backup MBA and stuff; what if you are a developer or other business you should go for a 1.5t or more that couldn't be better(no matter with cost).
