-48 error when copying music to iPod
I've been getting a -48 error in iTunes when I try adding a song from my iTunes Library to my iPod (I manage my iPod manually). I'm running iTunes 5.0.1; iPod Software 3.1, 4G iPod (black and white screen).
Any ideas? EDIT: It lets me copy over a few songs before it throws up its hands and gives me the type -48 error, in which case I need to (properly!) disconnect the iPod and reconnect it to get it to work again. EDIT #2: I meant to post this as a separate thread, not respond to this thread. Oops!

A -48 error means that either there is a duplicated file or that a folder is in the place of a file.
Yeah, that doesn't help at all. All I can say is that it looks like 5.0.2 is just around the corner (a matter of hours probably) so hold out for that.

2. Use the iTunes controller Widget 3. I have the FoxyTunes extension for Firefox, which gives me simple controls for iTunes in the status bar of browser windows.

It's even growl-aware so you have trigger transluscent overlays (like the volume/brightness controls). I've got mine configured so that every time a new track comes on, a transluscent black bar pops up at the bottom of my screen with album art, artist and track info (like MTV, sorta). Or a key shortcut pops up info about the currently playing track (in case I'm curious!) This is a sample screenshot of growl - imagine that black bar at the bottom sliding up for a few seconds then sliding back down with all the track info... Once it's all configured the way you want it, you won't even really need to go to iTunes to control your music - and best of all, this solution uses no screen space at all, so you've got more room to focus on what you're doing. |

Does anyone know if this solves anything for Windows platforms? From my experience, the performance is HORRIBLE and there's no way of downgrading to 4.x.

I've had no problems with iTunes 5 on my XP system. performance is fine. Of course I uninstalled iTunes and quicktime, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. Maybe a bit overkill but it takes 20 seconds to boot so *shrugs*. Don't think I will upgrade. The issues this resolves I haven't had in the first place. *knock on wood*

I never experienced any probelms myself with 5.0 , but nice to see this update anyway - I'll be installing it tonight.

Problem Updating iPod
I reported to Apple that with iTunes 5.0, it now updates every recently played song to my iPod. This is annoying and time wasting. It's also fragments my iPod's hard drive.
I can see no reason for updating songs to the iPod that I've simply listened to in iTunes. I hope they fixed that. I also had a problem with one playlist being appended to other playlists. I love the changes they made to iTunes. I just hope the bugs get worked out soon. Last edited by Jetson : Sep 20, 2005 at 06:27 PM. |
