49% Of Republicans Polled Blame ACORN For Obama Victory

Yep, you know, the ACORN that no longer exists. But no, ignorance is NOT prevalent among their party, that's just a stereotype.

Though the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) concluded that the stimulus legislation has saved or created 2.0-5.2 million jobs, only 8% of voters thought most economists who had studied it concluded that the stimulus legislation had created or saved several million jobs. Most (68%) believed that economists estimate that it only created or saved a few jobs and 20% even believed that it resulted in job losses.
Though the CBO concluded that the health reform law would reduce the budget deficit, 53% of voters thought most economists have concluded that health reform will increase the deficit.
Though the Department of Commerce says that the US economy began to recover from recession in the third quarter of 2009 and has continued to grow since then, only 44% of voters thought the economy is starting to recover, while 55% thought the economy is still getting worse.
Though the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that climate change is occurring, 45% of voters thought most scientists think climate change is not occurring (12%) or that scientists are evenly divided (33%).

Where in the article does it say 49% of Republicans that were polled blame ACORN besides the title?

The author seems to have a heavy slant.

It isn't just Republicans. People in the US are just inherently ignorant of most of what goes on in the world. Hardly anyone takes the time to educate themselves on issues anymore. Instead most of us just go with whatever sound byte we are fed by Fox or MSNBC.

This is slanted against "Obama supporters", but just a good example of what we deal with.

Why are there questions about ACORN on the survey if the organization is now defunct?

On question #5 about if "Obama legitimately won the election"... Press 2 "if you think ACORN stole it for him."

What a fun multiple choice that is! Hell I may have pressed 2 just for s*its & giggles!

So, 1/2 of self-identified Republican voters = ~16-19% of the electorate. The same roughly 20% faction - mostly social conservative - that continues to derail rational discussions about almost every issue. Some states are experimenting with a new primary system that may help-- we will see.

And yet their presidential election polls were far more accurate than those of supposedly middle-of-the road organizations like Gallup. So they must be doing something right.

I wouldn't take multiple choice as valid data for this kind of thing. People will guess when they don't get the reference. Obeygiant already pointed out the potential to mark it for amusement.

By that reasoning you should reject any poll that uses this methodology and not just one that happens to be slightly embarrassing for Republicans.

Also, you linked to 2009's PPP poll. Here's the new one.

One of the more interesting results is that PPP asked about the fake Panetta-Bowels-Simpson plan, showing the cracks in public information.

I know everyone loves to get all worked up into a froth, but let me add some reality and context into the equation.

The word "ACORN" means more to the right now than the organization itself. ACORN came to represent a tactic that the right despises. The word ACORN is now used to represent any company/organization/community-organizers that they perceive to be doing one particular thing...

Getting politically ignorant people who would have otherwise never voted, out to the polling places. Their (correct) assumption is that this socio-economic group being oranized will vote primarily for candidates from the Democratic party, and that these votes are primarily motivated by 'whats best for me' as opposed to 'whats best for the country.'

While ACORN is dead, the people who ran it and the people who ran organizations just like it obviously still exist and obviously are still playing a huge role in our country's political process. To the right, this is a very real and very serious problem.
