Well, my dad got a new ranch to farm and that means more $

He said he will be buying a 1GHz Ti very soon. He plays games a lot, and I told him why not build a gaming PC?

I told him all the G4s in our house are fast enough for anything, but gaming.

So, I think we are going to be building a nice ass gaming PC for xmas. Anyone got some ideas on what kind of products to use?

no no no, you've got this all wrong. Encourage him to buy the TiBook, then when he realizes it's not a great gaming machine, offer to trade it for your services of building him a PC. then you've got a tibook :)

I accidentally my whole location.
I've heard good things about this Abit board.
It's lagacy free for the most part (USB 2.0 and Firewire ports instead of parallel and serial, thank God) but it still has a floppy port.
Doesn't have as many PCI slots as some others, but it's already loaded with 5.1 sound, ethernet, and the previously mentioned Firewire and USB 2.0 ports.
There's also an Intel version in case you prefer them for some reason.

Happy gaming!

It seems like a shady site.. but I have a lotta PC friends who buy machines from here.. GREAT deals and TOTALLY customizable.. I might be doing the same.. building like a 800 dollar PC gaming machine.. maybe someday Apple users won't have to go to these extremes if Apple pushed developers to make more mac games and graphics cards... if you wanted to categorize Apple's biggest weaknesses .. the gaming industry is probably it. despite what Steve says.

No console

Consoles suck. I like playing games on a computer. Console's games are way to expensive. You cannot upgrade a console. Consoles dont have kazaa;)

i know quite a few people who have bought computers through cyberpower

they are very happy with their PCs and the service...except one ordered a computer with a new processor and the company neglected to mention that the processor would not be available for another month....

First check out a few of the part chop shops if you want to build it yourself. Also don't always think Birght Colors, and a KooLz name make a pc any better or worth more.

I would check into
http://www.newegg.com
good source of parts

http://www.monarchcomputer.com
http://resellerratings.com/seller2079.html
Parts are a bit more expensive, but the systems are solid, as they sell to IBM, Universities, and corporations as well as end users.

Whatever you do be sure to check thier resellerratings
http://www.resellerratings.com before you buy. If rember correctly cyberpower and ibuypower are the same company
http://resellerratings.com/seller2120.html

I would recommend a Gigabyte board, and would stay clear of Abit as they tend to have higher failure rates, and well Abits tech support leaves alot to be desired.:p

That new nVidia card sounds pretty obscene. I would love to have one of those. :D

Racer a FREE open-source game, needs work but graphics already are nice. The emphasis is on physics.

there must be some new games the tibook does well

building a PC is the most flexible for gaming, but these days, not much of a savings...if at all

but i live in northern california near silicon valley where there are unsurpassed super discount stores that sell new PCs cheaper than i can find parts for separately...and i am a PC tech

the only person i can actually see building a PC would be a gamer since many of the PC companies offer some pretty impressive BTO options and are only weeks behind in getting the latest video cards

but still some people like the customization aspect of making a machine and in the gamer's cases i know of, they could have bought almost an identical machine already built with a three year warranty

but there is something to be said for being a proud parent of a frankenstein and i like a lot of those custom glass and colored plastic cases
