where are the 27" imac reviews??!?!

Yeah where is the first Tear down ?

Now that deliveries have started, the one big question that I want answered is if the HDD portion of the 3TD Fusion Drive is 5600 or 7200. (I know it may not make a huge difference, but I still want to know )

i thought it had been confirmed that on 27in models they hard drive portion was 7200rpm from apple .. but i guess no one will know for sure unless they tear it down

vesa mounting too is one thing I am waiting on reviews to report on...

Yes, the 27" base model has a 7200rpm drive.

no what i meant was that since only 7200rpm drives came in the 27in then the hard drive section of the fusion would also be 7200

99.9% sure 27" Fusion drives include a 7200 HDD.

So the Fusion drive on a 27" is quicker then a Fusion on a 21"?

Well, the SSDs are probably the same speed in both, and in an ideal world, that's the speed you'll experience most of the time.

But yes: Any time you're loading something directly from (or (rarely) writing directly to) the hard disk side of the fusion drive, the 27" is almost certainly going to be faster. The 27" iMac uses a 3.5" 7200rpm HDD, while the 21.5" uses a 2.5" 5400rpm HDD.

Oh alright, yeah I bet you're right.

Maybe not everything you want, but see my preliminary review in this thread. I'm still copying stuff from my old iMac (via a backup disk) and have more work to do after that, so it'll be awhile before I can really tell how fast this puppy is.

While I think ultimately the fusion drive in the 27" *will* end up being 7200, I am curious where "on the product page since day 1" it states this. The only explicit notation in the specs that says 7200 is for the standalone drive. It is not explicitly stated that the fusion drive will have the same specs (although as I think we're all in agreement, it would be pretty surprising if it didn't).

I have the Fusion 3TB and just checked - it's 7200.

Yay! Thanks for turning 99.9% into 100%. Very relieved (and now even more impatient, waiting for mine to ship!!!!)

I don't game, but the GPU is able to handle a 10x10x10 (1000 total) grid of high polygon spheres in Cinema 4D smoothly. My old computer wouldn't dream of it...I've heard that gaming is great on another thread, though.

The RAM upgrade was really easy. Took like 2 minutes.

It runs extremely cool. I would confidently say that it's not even warm to the touch right now, and I've put it through its paces and it never really got warm at all.

The ambient case temp reads 59 degrees, which is cooler than room temp. in parts, the case is actually cold to the touch, so not surprising. Temp screenshot at idle attached.

It's pretty quiet too. My 2008 MBP across the room is making more noise than this right now.
