American news coverage and American life are very, very different. If you just go by media, it is hard to understand American culture IMO due to conflicted signals and the tendency to favor the extreme and extremely negative. The people picketing "God Hates F**s" gets news time on every channel where as the group that sets up an educational infrastructure designed to combat violence due to sexuality might get on page 88 of the back-door paper on a Tuesday evening. During Hurricane Katrina, "Looty" was front page news where as the outreach programs weren't even inside cover.

Technically, anyone can decide what "christian" means. According to not just christianity but also democracy, we have "free will". I know good people and bad people of all religions (and lack of religion)...christianity is no exception.

But if the point of Christianity is to emulate the actions of Jesus, then they aren't even making the effort unless that effort is to contradict every single teaching of Jesus.

In what way? They are being non-violent, and are tirelessly campaigning for a strict adherence to "God's Law" as they see it. Seems perfectly on-message to me.

I'm no expert on the Bible and I haven't read it since I was in high school, but...

I think you are looking at the 'strict adherence to god's law' more in terms of the Old Testament. Jesus relaxed many of the laws of Moses...IIRC circumcision was one of them. I think the the whole judgment thing is problematic and that they've cast a few stones in their day.

Again, I'm not a good person to speak on behalf of this topic so someone else may be better to bolster or dispute what I am saying.
