Do I need to reinstall iPod software after replacing hard drive?
I have an original iPod, first gen, and I want to replace the hard drive. Before I do this, I want to be sure I know what I'm doing, so will I need to reinstall the iPod software on the hard drive? If so, how would I go about doing this? Thanks!

You would do it through iTunes. Just restore it. It works because you're only replacing the storage part, and not the identification circuit parts, etc.

Not too sure but I think the firmware is stored on chips and not on the HD.

That sounds pretty straightforward. Thanks for your help!
