server
Having set up a Snow Leopard server
and now a MT Lion server. And ... reading of other folks problems with file sharing in Mt Lion server... I would recommend NOT purchasing OS 10.8.2 Server until Apple gets it together to function in a "friendly" and reliable manner. MSD |

Use Linux for your server.

Permissions on shares seem broken.
One worker begins a file structure and job files on the server and no one else has access to them for editing. PCs have trouble seeing the shares and can not access the shares for editing or moving files. We now - if someone, other than the creator needs to work on a file, - need to copy the file to the Leopard server then copy it back onto the MtLion server. It is not just a simple permissions problem. I have had Apple enterprise log into the server twice and and had phone support 4 times and the issue remains a mystery. I would just make sure everything is working perfectly before moving important work, in a group, to a MtLion server. Luckily, I have the 2 servers to bounce off of each other. MSD |
