Hi!

I have an external drive that I use for my Time Machine backups for my Macbook. I would like to move this to my Mac Mini, share the drive and keep backing up to the drive over the network.

Is it possible to just move it or will it think it's a new drive and I need to format etc? I want to keep my old backups, of course.

Anything I'll need to be careful with when doing this?

Ordinarily, you can just move the drive and pick up where you left off. But from your question it sounds like your were doing backups via USB (?) and now want to do it over the network in the Mini.

If that is the case, you will need to start the backup all over again as networked TM backups use a different format (sparse bundle) to accommodate the network.
