The video from my mac won't show on my tv

I bought a cord that connects directly to the HDMI plug in my tv from my macbook pro. and it shows the image on my tv screen. So it's connected. But when I try to play a movie from netflix it doesn't show up.

It may be having issues with the DRM. Instead of operating in mirrored mode, try in clamshell mode. Close the MacBook Pro's display, connect an external mouse and keyboard, wake the system, then try playing the video. If it works, its probably due to a restriction barring playback on two displays simultaneously.
