Is this rumor or truth?

I saw a news yesterday which said that iPhone surpass Android in U.S. smartphone sales. Is it true or just rumor?
I forget the link of the news. So I am not so sure is it the latest news.

Android still has more marketshare in the overall market.

Yes, iOS did surpass Android after the iPhone 5/iOS 6 was released.

Or maybe you just don't like his comment that the statistic is questionable.

It's not that it's incorrect, it's that its questionnable. Kantar for one doesn't release unit sale numbers its basing its numbers on. If you look at Gartner's data, 122 million handsets shipped with Android in Q3 '12 :

That gave them 72% market share over iOS's 23 million units and their 13.9% market share. This is world wide.

However, looking at the entire Kantar data (Which you can find here), you'll notice that Kantar doesn't give Android any market share about 60% in the markets it checks. With no unit sales number, it's hard to know what they are basing their data on, it's just a bunch of percentages.

So while it may not be incorrect (we'd have to see if Gartner has US only numbers and not just worldwide numbers), it makes the Kantar data questionable.
