2012 iMac and USB 3.0.

Just wanted to get other people's take on USB 3 on iMac. I just picked up a new Macally USB 3.0 enclosure for my WD black 7200rpm drive. Getting about 80mb/s read and write which is pretty much what I expected although I did see some benchmarks showing up to 120mb/s on the Seagate GoFlex drives. How fast are others getting?

Tested it on mine now, WD 2TB external (USB 3.0, of course). 100MB/s for both read and write. Sometimes peaking around 105 but 100MB/s average for BlackMagic tests.

Seagate may be using their 7200.14 drives. These are much more quicker than Blacks, RE or Reds.

Yeah, it looks like my WD Black drive is SataII only. Not sure if the Macally controller is SataIII or II capable. Here is the product.

Here are some pics of the setup in case anyone is interested. Overall pleased with the enclosure I guess. Would have liked a tad bit more speed (but this is likely limitation of the hard drive within). Case gets warm under heavy use but not raging hot. At idle the case feels like room temperature. Still trying to see if this works with sleep function but I have a feeling it won't work. The design is sleek. Matches the rest of the iMac setup. LED activity light is a little annoying in the sense that it sits behind the grate holes in the front. Not too bright but I would have figured for this price would have liked to see something subtle/more sophisticated like the power LED light on the Apple keyboard or trackpad.
