Sharing Photo Files

I have two iMac's and want to download photography files (both jpeg and raw) from either iMac to a common drive on the network, and then access those files from either machine, saving any changes back to the common network drive.

What is the easiest way to accomplish this?

A NAS.
Synology makes some great ones.
