MBA 13" - Is 8GB ram upgrade essential?

I know it's only 80 but if I can save that money great. I'm coming from a 2006 iMac and 2007 Macbook. I use Illustrator/InDesign daily for my job, light photoshop, even less video. If it's about 4gb being sufficient for now but not in 2-3 years wouldn't it make sense to upgrade to a new machine in 2-3 years which will have new processors/display/battery life?

Every user is different if you need it - go for it. If you dont need now and plan to sell in 2 years then dont get it.

I have an April 2010 MacBook Pro 13" with the factory-installed 4gb of RAM, that seems to be doing just fine for day-to-day usage (web browsing, email, viewing videos, etc.)...

Your mileage may vary...

Depends what you do with it, and how long you plan to keep the computer. My priority is getting the best performance from the computer, so better to have more than you might need at the start, but the right amount later ... Especially is the RAM is soldered in and not upgradable.

Thanks for advice - just seen on Amazon UK base 13" on offer now at 855 from 999 (here) so if you can stomach the 4gb ram the cost for a new machine is 684+vat.
