Using Form Fields and Templates Word 2011

I have a MacBoook Air and Word 2011. I am trying to use templates with form fields that i previously made on a PC Word 2003. Every time i save a doc that was created from a template all the form fields default to the original position. (If there were text fields they are deleted).
Do i have to create all new templates from my Mac or is there some save as type that i am missing?
