FCE transitions

Some of the transitions I make in in FCE are too short and I can't make them longer. Any ideas?

Might the clips they are applied to cut off, thus reducing the transition? If clip A cuts right at the end of the transition, the transition itself cannot be made longer due to clip A stopping... try extending the end of clip A and extending the beginning of clip B and see if the transition can be made longer then.
