I can pick up a GTX 460 2GB for $50. Can I make it work under Snow Leopard? The reason I ask is my time machine/clone drive is in bay 4 (WD Green) when it spins up it gives me happy pink graphical glitches. The HD ought not be interfering with the graphics card and I'm not sure of the cause so I'm chasing problems.

I'd like to know if GTX 460's can work under Snow Leopard as well, and what is all required.

Thanks

you need to install Quadro 4000 driver for 10.6.8

you need ATY_Init

You will likely find out what "Fermi Freeze" means

Google is your friend

I have written EFIs for GTX460, they work great but the guy who was going to market them dropped the ball

You can't flash them with EFI as chip is too small

So, without EFI and using the above method, you will not see anything until desktop loads.

If you use 10.7.3 or later, no need for ATY_Init and I think Fermi freeze eventually got fixes

Yikes, it'd just be better to get a 5770 or 5870 straight from Apple if money isn't an issue.
