iBook, hack, and widescreen

I have a 12" iBook (1.2GHz, 768 RAM) and am looking into buying an external display and utilizing the screen spanning hack. I have seen a lot of posts on this site related to this topic, but all are speculation--very little evidence. Is anyone using a 20" widescreen display (Dell or similar) with an iBook? Is this possible? How is the performance? Thanks for the help.

Whats the res. on it??? I've seen someone use a 20" Dell before... it will slow your iBook down a bit though...
