Does anyone here have any advice on how to have a successful sale (that is, generate more revenue than if nothing was done?)

Are there any particular weekdays that are better than others?
What sort of advertising should be done?
How much should the price drop by?
How long should the price drop for?

If you are ad supported/have a pay to upgrade option I have heard going from paid to free is great. I have heard app sites will catch the drop and sometimes feature your app or include it on a mailing list etc...
