Sound output balance all messed up

For some reason, in system preferences, the sound output balance is more towards the right speaker. i keep changing it, but it keeps going back. anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? 😕

This happens occasionally on my iBook. Try resetting the PRAM.

how would one go about resetting the pram?
