MacBook keyboard confusing letters

Hi my cous MacBook has a problem with the keyboard where he would tap say the T letter and it would come up with RT on the screen and it does it for several other letters aswell but not all.
Anyone have a fix for this? I reinstalled the OS and no change so its must be hardware... Could it be the flex cable? I'm hoping as these are a lot cheaper on eBay.

I have just upgrade my on Macbook Unibody 2008 (A1278) with SSD and to 8 GB RAM with EFI firmware updated to MB51:007D.003.

Currently its running on Snow Leopard and im planning to update to Mountain Lion. Which firmware should i run with the spec above? Should i maintain? Am i running the correct firmware? Please advise.

Get a new one and swap it out?
