Am I Entitled To a Refund?
There are several scratches on the iphone case, near the lightning port. This port has only been used a total of 3X. Once at the store where I bought it to set up the phone. At the apple store to transfer contacts. And at home to recharge the phone. That's it. After a week, there are already multiple scratches near that port, after what I consider to be relatively light use.
Can I return this phone for an exchange and refund? I don't think the phone should scratch this easily. I had a regular cell phone before, which I was far less careful with, and it took maybe two years before it looked as bad as the iphone 5 after just one week. edit: I should've added that my phone has been in a case the entire time. It's tough to decide, could be just a bad phone or maybe you're putting too much pressure on it when you're trying to connect it? It is aluminum so it does scratch easily.

Most phones will show wear and tear with reasonable use.
Perhaps you should use some form of shield or full case if these marks are going to annoy you. |

Its considered normal wear and tear.
It will scratch eventually if you're sticking it to the port on the bottom and missing the hole. (that's what she said )

Here is apple's return policy for reference. I bought my phone at wally world. I'll probably have to go in person and ask what their store specific policy is, if any. Returns and refunds iPhone Return Policy If you are not fully satisfied with your iPhone purchase, you can return your undamaged iPhone to the Apple Online Store (1-800-MY-APPLE), or to a U.S. Apple Store, within 30 calendar days from shipment for a full refund. If you return your iPhone within 30 calendar days from shipment, you will not be charged a restocking fee. Your iPhone must be returned in the original packaging, including any accessories, manuals, and documentation. |

Got my black iPhone 5 on launch day and still no scratches. It's either defective or you are not doing something right.

Why do people respond without reading my OP? I've used the lightning port ONCE and very carefully at that. It's been used on 2 other occasions by store employees to activate the phone and to transfer data.

You only charged your phone once in a week?

I'm reading your first post and the answer is the same, it's normal and will just happen again. Just because you used the port only three times, doesn't mean the port wasn't used like a mad cow over in China.

Well could be, but stuff doesn't scratch out of nothing, there must have been some contact with something, either by you or the apple store employees |

You aren't entitled to a refund.

I charge mine everyday and still no scratches. It must be a faulty anodising. Swap it.

That would be easy. First we need to decide whether the masses agree.

---------- I'll definitely be back at wally world where I bought in the next few days to check. Calling is pointless since the employees are so incompetent and it's an hour round trip so I thought I'd check here with the veterans of the industry first. |

What's it matter if it's in an Otterbox all the time? Sometimes I don't get all the people swapping for some scratches especially when it's something that is being used daily.

As far as I can surmise, the answer is either 'yes,' or 'no.'

If you are within the return period then yes. If you aren't within the return period then no. Is it worth the trip to get a new iPhone that will inevitably get scratched is up to you. Have you thought of putting a case on your phone?
