Can one simply plug the iPhone via lightning to a USB enabled playing sound device like a car radio and be able to play music?

If the device supports it, I would assume yes. I bought a new receiver for my car with both BT and USB. USB works just fine coming from the lightning port on my iPhone. Even charges it too.

I've had no luck

iPhone 5 Bluetooth is not compatible with my car radio

Lightning doesn't transit any audio via USB

My last gamble is to shop for a male to male audio cable to plug into the AUX input :(
